Overview & Highlights

Located in the vibrant heart of Causeway Bay, West Villa Restaurant stands as a stalwart of traditional Cantonese cuisine in Hong Kong. This Chinese restaurant has garnered a loyal following for its timeless menu and classic dim sum offerings, serving up authentic flavors that evoke the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Step inside and you’ll find a spacious, clean dining environment that feels both comfortable and welcoming—perfect for family gatherings or leisurely weekend meals. However, given its popularity, especially on weekends, reservations are highly recommended to secure a spot.

West Villa's kitchen reveals a mastery of subtle yet robust flavors, with dishes that speak to a refined balance of skill and tradition. Among the must-try plates, the Crispy Yellow Chicken shines with its irresistibly golden, crackling skin paired with tender, juicy meat, delivering a satisfying crunch and flavor that lingers delightfully on the palate. Their Steamed Fish is another highlight, prepared to silky perfection, allowing the freshness of the seafood to shine through with a delicate simplicity.

Dim sum lovers are drawn here for classics such as the shrimp-filled 蝦腸粉, showcasing smooth and freshly made rice rolls generously stuffed with plump shrimp—each bite offering a wonderfully soft texture paired with bursts of oceanic sweetness. However, some dishes like the chicken feet in abalone sauce have received mixed reactions, with some diners finding them underwhelming in flavor compared to other offerings. The seasonal mud crab adds a luxurious touch when available, promising a decadent dining experience.

On the other hand, West Villa's signature “Big Brother” char siu, famously reputed to be a favorite of Jackie Chan, brings a certain curiosity, though opinions vary. While consistently well-prepared, some guests have noticed a reduction in portion sizes and a texture that didn't always meet expectations, reminding diners to manage their excitement with measured anticipation.

Service here is generally courteous but can slow down during peak hours, a testament to the restaurant's enduring popularity and bustling weekend crowds. Diners who appreciate a no-frills, honest approach to Cantonese cooking will find West Villa a reliable destination to revisit time and again.

In summary, West Villa Restaurant offers a nostalgic dive into traditional Hong Kong flavors, where the comforting familiarity of Cantonese cuisine is front and center. For those seeking a taste of authentic dim sum and classic dishes amidst a spacious, lively setting, it remains a worthy, if slightly premium, option in Causeway Bay’s rich culinary landscape.

There's a talented cook in the kitchen, crafting dishes with remarkable skill and precision. Each plate is a testament to the delicate balance of subtle flavors and robust cuisine, showcasing the best of Hong Kong's culinary heritage. Must-Try Dishes: Crispy Yellow Chicken: This dish stands out for its perfectly crispy skin and juicy meat, making it a must for any diner. Steamed Fish: Cooked to perfection, the fish retains its moistness and is a fine example of the clean flavors that Cantonese cuisine is known for. West Villa is an obvious choice! No hesitation !

This is my husband's family go to dim sum place. It is on the pricey side and some dim sum dishes are a hit and miss. Their 蝦腸粉 has generous amount of shrimp and the 腸粉 is very smooth. The chicken feet with abalone sauce has no taste. Recently, they are selling mud crabs, as it is a seasonal item. Spacious and clean environment. It is very pack on the weekends, so definitely need to make a reservation.

A good venue for traditional Cantonese food lovers, West Villa has been serving in Hong Kong for decades. Food: 7.5/10: it’s simple and old fashion style Cantonese food without too much presentation. Service: 6/10: it was slow especially during the busy peak hours(lunch time) and weekend - the waitress and waitress have been running around to serve many tables. It’s simply under staff and the staff was stressed or stern on their faces most of the time. Price: it was pricy for the service wand food it served. There could be other better choices. Average of HKD250-600 per head.

Higher $ end dim sum place. I have visited this establishment multiple times over the years. Food quality has been consistent and service relatively good. My favorite is their cha shua. However, I noticed that plate has gotten smaller. The photo I took two years ago had 12 pieces, and now only 8. I guess shrinkflation is alive here in HK.

We came for the "famous" char siu reputed to be Jackie Chan's favourite also know as "big brother" char siu. However, it was very underwhelming with a lot of unchewable strings in the meat, it didn't justify anywhere the reputation nor the price. The other dimsums we tried, plus some takeout dishes we took home were ok, but all pretty average and the overall cost was more than the myriads of similar dimsum/Cantonese restaurants in the area. Worst of all, they billed our dine-in and takeout food together all with 10% service charge, not a place we will come back to. Updated October 2022 We did come back after about two years and tried the famous char siu again. Fortunately this time the quality and taste did met our expectations, it was superb, melt in the mouth good. I added one extra star.
